Job Title:
Buyer - Fashion Accessories
Responsible for all facets of product assortment, financial planning, and vendor partnerships in accordance with the sales, margin, turnover and flow goals of an assigned division.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Partners with the Planner to determine financial goals including pre-season financial plans, in-season projections, managing open-to-buy dollars and new store budgets to prior purchase commitments. Maintains open-to-buy and financial plans by forecasting and maintaining proper receipt flow of key items and basics and reacting to sales and inventory levels.
- Develops seasonal merchandise assortment, by store group where applicable, to improve category depth and breadth. Participates in recommending and executing product pricing strategies, merchandising and flow strategies based on current data, trends and forecasts as it relates to margin opportunities.
- Identifies maintenance and trending categories and key items via test strategies. Ensures adequate transitional quantities and timing of flow on basic and seasonal programs. Monitors sales and inventory and recommends appropriate markdown action. Provides appropriate communication and directives to stores.
- Develops and maintains vendor partnerships while executing negotiation strategies relative to product costs, terms and shipping/return issues while maximizing margin opportunities.
- Reviews inventory regularly including merchandise on order. Maintains current data on sales and fashion trend to plan future purchases. Works with new stores to ensure timely delivery of initial and flowback orders, in accordance with approved budgets.
- Oversees the advertising and promotional programs to ensure sufficient quantity of featured product and appropriate ad placement to ensure desired outcome. Ensures ad merchandise arrives in store before ad dates and follows up with vendors, distribution centers to track ad prep and sales results.
- Multiple years in Retail Merchandising, Business Administration and/or Marketing or related area.
- Multiple years experience as a Buyer with major retailer.
- Strong negotiation skills and group presentation skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate at all levels.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and maintain deadlines.
